Cab Conveniences. Long hours in theCat Skid Steer Loader aremade easier bymany standard conveniences, includinga 12 volt DCpower socket. Side, slidingwindows offer protection fromtheelements and allow fresh air ventilation.Redesigned side windowsare removablefor easy cleaning. Cabs with the dooroption installedfeature a new, automaticlock-out switch that preventsaccidentaldamage by disabling the loader functionswhen the door isopen.

High-Efficiency Climate Controls.Operating in extremetemperatures canbe more comfortable with the optionalcab airconditioner and heater. Airflowis increased up to 83 percent and isnowdirected through six adjustable vents.Twice as many vents makedefrostingthe optional front door and side windowseasier. Theheater and air conditionercan be ordered separately ortogether.

Instrumentation. Cat Skid Steer Loaderinstrument panels andgauges are simple,easy to use and reliable. Bright indicatorlightsand audible warnings signal anycritical system situation. Positivefeelswitches, with status lights, controlmost on/off functions. Anengine aircleaner restriction indicator is nowin the cab for easiermonitoring.

Visibility. Operating ease andproductivity is enhanced on theCatSkid Steer Loader by excellentvisibility. The wide cab openingoffersan exceptional view of the work tool.The sloped angle of theenginecompartment allows excellent visibilityto the rear of themachine. A new,standard convex rearview mirror givesthe operator apanoramic view of themachine’s rear and sides. In addition,forbetter visibility in low-light conditions,the standard forwardlights are nowadjustable 10 degrees in any direction.

Access/Egress. The Cat Skid SteerLoader cab is designed to makemachineoperation simple, productive andcomfortable. Getting in andout of thecab is easy through a wide opening withthree point grabirons and skid-resistantsteps. Tilt cylinders are neatlylocatedunder the lift arms so not to interfere withoperator accessand egress. Plenty ofuncluttered floor space makes steppinginto thecab even easier.

Cab Packages. Several cab packagesand options are available. Thestandardcab offers features such as an adjustablecontoured seat,cushioned armbar, dualthrottle controls, pilot operatedjoysticks,12 volt DC power socket and optionalcup holder.

Excellent Visibility

Cat Diesel Power. The heart of theCat Skid Steer Loader powertrain isthe Caterpillar 3044C DIT engine.This rugged, reliable fourcylinderengine offers aggressive performanceand a fast torque curvefor quickresponse. It is also a low emissionengine, fully U.S. EPATier 2 compliant.

Dual Engine Throttle Controls. The handand foot throttles allowthe operator tomatch engine speed to the task. The handthrottle isideal for jobs requiringconsistent engine speed — such ascoldplaning, trenching or snow blowing.The foot throttle lets theoperatorvary engine speed and minimize fuelconsumption for othertasks such asload and carry, truck loading, gradingand dozing.

Anti-Stall Feature. The anti-stall systemon the Cat Skid SteerLoader allowsmaximum power to the wheels whileminimizing enginestalling. This systemhelps maximize productivity forexperiencedoperators and makes iteasier for novice operators tobecomeproductive.

Variable Displacement Piston Pumps.The dual,variable-displacement, axialpiston pumps are driven directly offtheengine and provide hydraulicflow to the drive motors via aclosedloop system. Drive motors transfermechanical power to thewheels viatwo high-strength, pre-stressed chainsper machine side.Chains run in an oilbath for constant lubrication and longlife.Chains are adjustable through slotsin the axle housings.

Drive Axles. The drive axles are forgedand induction hardenedfor maximumlife. They include a unique lip and outerseal to helpprevent debris such as wireand twine from wrapping around theaxleand destroying the seal. An innerseal is used for permanentlubricationof axle bearings so no daily axle serviceisrequired.

Power and Reliability. Maximum powerand reliability are builtinto the Cat SkidSteer Loader hydraulic system. In additiontoproviding power to drive the wheels,this system also provides theloader liftand tilt functions, powers the auxiliarycircuit to drivework tools and drivesthe engine cooling fan.

Hydraulic Pumps. The hydraulic pumpsare driven directly off theengine formaximum hydraulic performance andreliability — no beltsare used. Pumpsare fixed-displacement and provideflow to the loaderand auxiliary circuitsat 81 L/min (22 gal/min) at high idle.Maximumsystem pressure for theloader and standard auxiliary circuitsis 23000 kPa (3335 psi) for the 236Band 246B. A load sensing,variabledisplacement piston pump providesflow and pressure for the248B loaderand auxiliary circuit at 125 L/min(33 gal/min) at highidle. Maximumsystem pressure for High Flow auxiliarycircuit is 28000 kPa (4060 psi). Controlof the loader lift and tilt functions isbyhydraulically-operated joystick controlsfor low effort andprecise operation.

Auxiliary Hydraulics. Standard auxiliaryhydraulics to power worktools areavailable through quick connect hydrauliccouplings thatare rigidly mounted tothe loader arm. The Caterpillar line ofhighpressure XT™ ES hoses and O-ringface seals help ensure a leak-freesystem.

Reliability and Cleanliness. Hydraulicsystem reliability andcleanliness areimproved by using single componentsin place ofmultiple components, suchas the monoblock hydraulic valveandmonoblock pumps. Fewer leak pointsimprove reliability and resultin a cleanermachine. In addition, hydraulic oilflows through a5-micron spin-on filter.A filter restriction indicator is locatedinthe operator station. A 74-micronscreen in the hydraulic tankpreventslarger debris from entering the systemand causing damage tothe hydrauliccomponents.

Hydraulic Oil Cooler. A high-efficiency,hydraulic oil coolerlets the Cat SkidSteer Loader work longer and harderin higherambient temperatures, evenwhen using continuous high flowworktools. The high capacity, hydraulic oilreservoir also helpskeep operatingtemperatures lower.

248B High Flow XPS. Maximumpressure can be maintainedregardlessof the work tool speed or conditionswith this loadsensing, pressurecompensating system. Hydraulic poweris maximizedfor any given load with avariable displacement, axial pistonpumpthat allows high pressure at anygiven speed for high hydraulicpower atlow or high idle.

Hydraulic system has built-in reliability and providesexceptional lift, breakout and auxiliarypower to work tools.

Service Access. The rear door opens90 degrees for easy access tobothsides of the in-line (lengthwise)mounted engine.

Filters. All filters are easily accessible,which makes routineservice quickerand virtually spill-free.

Cooling System. The radiator, hydraulicoil cooler and grill tiltup to increaseaccess to the cooling system duringmaintenance andallow easier cleaningof debris from between the grill andcoolingpackage. The cooling fan ishydraulically-driven forquieteroperation and to eliminate the serviceand maintenance thatcomes with beltdriven fans.

Easy Tilting Cab. The machine cab cannow be tilted rearward byan individualusing a single tool. The cab is held inplace by aself-latching mechanism.When the cab is tilted back, allhydraulicpumps, motors, valves, lines and fuel tankare accessiblefor quicker, easier service.

Removable Belly Pan. A removablebelly pan section on the floorof themachine’s lower frame providesexcellent access for periodiccleaning.

Electrical and Hydraulic Lines. Cleanerrouting of electrical andhydraulic linescompared to former models improvesreliability andsimplifies service.

Maintenance Points. Maintenancepoints are grouped in easilyaccessiblelocations.

Caterpillar Scheduled Oil Sampling(S•O•SSM). The scheduled oilsamplingvalves are standard to allow regularmonitoring of theengine and hydraulicoil quality.
